Donau Bellamethan® – Quality that works

Donau Bellamethan® optimises the conversion process with its product properties specially adapted to the production process and ensures safe operation of the biogas plant.

Donau Bellamethan®, the special product for the removal of H2S, is produced at the Brückl plant (Carinthia). The modern membrane electrolysis process is used to produce sodium hydroxide, chlorine and hydrogen gas from common salt and water. Most of the chlorine is then processed into hydrochloric acid using hydrogen.

The plant produces up to 90,000 tonnes of ferric chloride and 40,000 tonnes of polyaluminium chloride per year using hydrochloric acid as a raw material and is one of the largest producers in the industry in Europe.

To produce iron chloride solutions, iron oxide is first dissolved with hydrochloric acid. In the next step of the process, a uniform, high concentration of Fe2+ is adjusted and Excess acid degraded.

The undesired impurities are then largely separated by targeted process control; the trace substances desired for use in biogas plants are retained or added as required. Finally, the product is filtered to achieve a clear solution and consistent quality. 

The high iron content and the very low heavy metal content make Donau Bellamethan® a quality product which is ideally suited for use in biogas plants.

We also offer solutions in combination with activated carbon filters to remove further impurities and to improve the gas quality.
